For over 120 years, the Berlin Philharmonic has been one of the premier orchestras of the world. In 1988, wind players from the philharmonic founded a wind quintet after the Berlin Philharmonic's rich tradition.

The Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet was founded in 1988 and boasts the same membership since its inception. It is the first permanently established wind quintet in the Berlin Philharmonic's rich tradition of chamber music.

The ensemble appears frequently throughout Europe, the United States, South America, Israel, Japan and the Far East, and also performs at renowned festivals such as those in Berlin and Salzburg. Their CD recordings have received critical accolades worldwide.

For the Philadelphia Foundation Concert Series, this unmatched wind ensemble will team up with pianist Jon Nakamatsu, gold medalist at the 1997 Van Cliburn International Competition and named 1998's "Debut Artist of the Year" by NPR's "Performance Today." He has been profiled by "CBS Sunday Morning" and Reader's Digest magazine, and was featured in "Playing with Fire,"a documentary about the Van Cliburn Competition aired nationwide on PBS.

"It is rare to hear man perfectly integrated with music .... Such communion was achieved by the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet. It was a concert not to be forgotten." (Washington Post)

"Nakamatsu unleashed his big keyboard style with a joyous abandon. ... Irresistible." (San Francisco Chronicle)
